FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In a highly successful nationwide food drive, the United Way of Greater Baytown Area and Chambers County collaborated with the Letter Carriers of Baytown who collected a record breaking 18,000 pounds of food on Saturday, May 14, 2016. All of these food items, collected May 14 by letter carriers on their routes, were provided to churches and nonprofit food pantries serving Baytown, Highlands and Chambers County.
The NALC’s annual one-day drive, largest in the nation, is held on the second Saturday in May in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam. The food drive was founded by Civil War veterans in 1889; the NALC is among the country's oldest labor unions.
The Greater Baytown Area really came together to #StampOutHunger and the effort helps so many families in need. Thank you to everyone for their participation and a huge thank you to all of the letter carriers who brave the elements to pick up food to #StampOutHunger. All of the donations are truly appreciated and will bring hope to so many families. Thanks again, until next time. #DreamBigWorkTogether #BiggestFoodDonationEver #UnitedInGBACC #StampOutHunger #LiveUnited
