Board leadership of New Horizon Family Center has informed United Way of Baytown Area that the agency ceased operations, effective 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012.  New Horizon has served families affected by domestic violence and sexual assault since 1981. Saturday, Nov. 17, is the new date for the first United Way of Baytown Area Community Kickball Tournament.  On its original Sept. 29 date, the event was rained out.   The public is encouraged to come watch the fun.  Admission is free for spectators.  Attractions and family fun, such as face painting and games, will be free.   Proceeds from concession sales will benefit community Kindergarten readiness initiatives by United Way and numerous partner organizations.   Tournament play will begin at...

A more rigorous and costly GED assessment test will be implemented in January 2014, so Harris County Department of Education officials encourage GED students to prepare for and take tests during 2012 or 2013.
