Beginning Feb. 5, volunteers with American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) will offer free income tax preparation assistance at both Sterling Municipal Library in Baytown and Stratford Library in Highlands. The program is targeted for taxpayers age 60 and older, but also will assist low-income and moderate-income filers.
In Baytown, this service is available at Sterling Municipal Library, near the intersection of Decker Drive and West Texas Avenue, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon-4 p.m. through Thursday, April 11.
In Highlands, this service is available at Stratford Library, 509 Stratford, on Tuesdays from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. through April 9.
Taxpayers should bring Social Security cards for themselves and all dependents, a copy of last year’s tax return, W-2 forms from each employer, unemployment compensation statements, SSA-1099 form if Social Security benefits were received, all 1099 forms, all forms indicating federal income tax paid, child care provider information, receipts or cancelled checks if itemizing deductions, some type of picture ID.
